Ruthven opened his 2024 Titans League account with a scintillating century as the Klofies convincingly beat Hoërskool Centurion by eight wickets on Saturday.
With Waterkloof chasing 252 runs for victory, the right-hander put his clean ball striking on full display, smashing the ball to all parts of his home ground, the Andre van der Walt Oval.
His 128 runs came from only 57 deliveries and included 21 boundaries – 11 fours and 10 sixes. Ruthven also led the way with the ball, claiming two scalps for 61 runs in nine overs.
Out in the middle, he received solid support from his team-mates, with Divan Behrens, his opening partner over the last two seasons, chipping in with a well-played 38 runs, while Marcus Bakker and Rico van der Walt contributed 40 runs each to steer their side to a comfortable victory.
The Woeries, who lost by 10 wickets to Pretoria Boys High in their season opener, made significant strides compared to their batting performance from a week earlier. Their captain and highly regarded top-order batsman, Charl Prinsloo, was on fire, cracking 137 runs to lead the way for his side.
Opening batsman Stefan de Villiers also made use of the batting-friendly conditions, contributing 59 runs before he was eventually removed.
Waterkloof will have a big test when they face Hoërskool Menlopark on Sunday. The match will also be played at the Andre van der Walt Oval.
Pretoria Boys High secured a second convincing win on the trot as their bowlers bullied Prestige College. The Boys High new ball partnership of Tim Tattersall and Johan Coetzer proved too much for the batsmen from Hammanskraal. They picked up three wickets each in the blink of an eye, conceding only 17 runs between them. Nicholas Rossouw lent good support, snapping up 2 for 24.
Rossouw and Coetzer also led the way with the willow. Coetzer top scored with a mature 24 runs from 36 deliveries, while Rossouw scored a-run-a- ball 20 to see PBHS to a seven-wicket win.
