Guy Sheena (Western Province) and Justin Potgieter (Griqualand West) continued the trend of the spin bowlers being the standout performers at the Cricket South Africa’s CSA) National under-13 Week here.

Potgieter produced the best performance by a bowler so far of the tournament as he dismissed six of Northerns’ batsmen for only 29 runs as the latter were bundled out for only 68 runs. Griquas managed to surpass Northerns first innings total thanks to Jan Duvenhage whom scored 46 of his side’s total of 95. Anslin Fortuin (4/25) and Yaseen Ebrahim (3/18) caused some problem for the side from the Northern Cape.

Sheena who has bagged the most wickets at the tournament after two days’ play could not prevent his side from losing their match against Eastern Province with his performance. Sheena grabbed six wickets for the cost of 46 runs as Eastern Province recorded 128 in their first innings. Western Province could only manage 93 in their corresponding innings. Sheena has taken 11 wickets during the tournament thus far.

Robert de Villiers of North West continued his form with the bat in hand with 87 runs against KwaZulu-Natal. He is the top run scorer after two days with 150 runs in his side’s two matches. He could however not secure a victory with his innings as the match finished in a draw.

Gauteng’s Mudiwah-Jonah Chankira (94) showed with his half-century against Zimbabwe that he is able to pull his weight with both bat and ball for his team. He grabbed five wickets (5/27) in his side’s first match against Mpumalanga. He and Gareth Schreuder (59) helped Gauteng to 266/8 in their first innings against Zimbabwe which set up the only outright victory for the day.

Free State’s Stefan van der Linde who missed out on the action on the first day produced an allround performance against Easterns. Van der Linde (96) recorded the highest innings of the second day as his side declared their innings on 252/8. He was also the pick of his side’s bowlers picking up three wickets for 17 runs with his leg spinners. Easterns were on 96/7 when rain interrupted the match.
