Just as they did against Rondebosch Boys’ High four weeks ago, Wynberg Boys’ High used the rolling maul to secure a southern suburbs’ derby victory, outscoring Bishops 38-20 on the Piley Rees on Saturday.

Down by only two points, at 10-12 at halftime, the hosts were in the game. However, hooker Ridhau Johnson scored a hat-trick off the back of rolling mauls, once again demonstrating how lethal Wynberg could be from the lineout, and the visitors went on to claim a comfortable victory.

Bishops showed some fighting spirit and replied with tries from outside centre Eljaron Geduld and substitute back Elihle Tsobo.

While the home side entertained with some silky hands among their backs, it was ultimately the Wynberg forward pack that stole the show and won the game through their cohesion.

Next Saturday, the challenge will be even tougher for Bishops, who take on an in-form Paarl Gimnasium.

After starting their season with five straight losses, Hoërskool Bellville earned their third victory in a row, winning 27-20 at Milnerton High.

Outside centre Caylem du Plessis showed good composure to finish two tries against a rushing Millies‘ defence. Flyhalf Marno Botes also had a good game. In addition to his playmaking responsibilities, his seven points off the kicking tee, from two conversions and one penalty, proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Millies’ flyhalf Chadlin Sellidon caught the eye, scoring 10 points, crossing for a try while also adding a conversion and a penalty.

Unfortunately, for the home team, his creative spark wasn’t enough to quell the Bellville effort, with the visitors ultimately doing enough to get the win.

Next weekend, Milnerton’s quest for a first win of the season – they mustered a 15-15 draw with Brackenfell among their seven defeats – continues next Saturday against Hoërskool Strand.

Hoërskool Swartland has failed to score 30 points or more only once in their seven wins this season. They scored more than double that, putting the biggest total of their 2026 campaign on the scoreboard on Saturday in a resounding 61-28 victory over Hoërskool Robertson in Malmesbury.

Robbies showed fight, running in four tries, all converted, but their defence had few answers to the home side’s offensive questions.

Hooker Winsor Solomon dotted down twice, while seven others also found their way over the try line. It was an all-round effort from the hosts, who played arguably their best game of the season in front of their home crowd.

Swartland faces a serious challenge next Saturday when they take on HTS Drostdy, another team whose attack has been lighting up opponents.
