DF Malan laid down a challenge to Parel Vallei in Somerset West on Saturday, but the hosts successfully defended their turf, thanks to intelligent play and the exciting young talent making its way through their ranks.

With a strong wind at their backs in the first half, Parel Vallei built up an 11-point buffer which they protected through good game management after the break.

Flyhalf Shudley Rhoda pulled the strings with his intelligent kicking and his scrumhalf, Michael Kent, also made his presence felt.

It was, however, their new dangerman, Renato Tosi, who earned his first cap for Parel Vallei at the Oakdale Klein Karoo Saadproduksie Rugby Week, who stole the show.

The big no. 8 overpowered DF Malan’s defenders to score two tries as Parel Vallei recorded a well-deserved 10-point victory at home.

The visitors did their utmost to fight back in difficult conditions, but it wasn’t enough to pull back the lead the Bulldogs had accrued in the first half.

After a busy Easter, Parel Vallei has a welcome break on the forthcoming weekend before they welcome Hoërskool Tygerberg on 20 April.

Robertson put on another exciting show of rugby for their home fans as they beat an in-form Montagu.

Bernardo Diedericks, the Robbies’ star centre, played a blinder, slotting two penalties and a massive drop goal for nine crucial points.

Montagu vice-captain Ronaldo Koker‘s perfect conversion rate gave his side 21 points, after tries by Chadwin Lottering, Linden de Silva and Xolani Yanta, but the hosts had too much firepower on the day.

Stephen Kent, Roberto Koert and Groban van Wyk crossed the whitewash for Robertson, and flyhalf Jaydan van Niekerk also added seven off the kicking tee.

Meanwhile, HTS Drostdy flexed their muscles in Wellington, cruising to a 46-10 victory over Hugenote, despite facing similar windy conditions.
