School of Rugby Rankings – 19 April 2022
So here it is, our first school rugby rankings of 2022! And also our first school rankings since 2019.
Grey College is still occupying the top spot, but if we did produce rankings in 2021 Paarl Gimnasium would probably have been the top team for last year.
There is however at this stage not a lot to choose between the two sides with the fact that Grey has played one more game probably giving them the edge because of how our algorithm features a bonus point for being unbeaten which also takes into account how many matches you’ve played up until that stage.
Diocesan College or rather Bishops is also unbeaten after seven matches and occupies the third position on our rankings. Paarl Boys’ High is in the fourth position and is also still unbeaten but did draw 19-all against Garsfontein during the Noord/Suid tournament in Pretoria.
Garsies boasts a formidable outfit this year and also managed to defeat Affies (20-19) for the first time in history. They are ranked fifth at this stage.
At this stage of the season, we have also decided not to rank any teams who haven’t played four or more matches. This means teams like Oakdale Landbou, Outeniqua and Menlopark were not taken into consideration for any places on our first rankings of the season.
Please note that we don’t take matches against international opposition into consideration in our rankings. These games will however still be recorded and shown in our results.
These rankings are not an official ranking as there is no official ranking on schoolboy level and this is only to get the discussion on school rugby on South Africa flowing. We however take our responsibility for reporting on school rugby very seriously.
