Jim Fouché favourites in Classic Clash against Tralies

The Bloemfontein schools are all in action on the rugby field this weekend.

Sentraal face another big challenge as they take on their neighbours, Jim Fouché, for their annual FNB Classic Clash on Saturday at 14:20.

The game will be available live on SuperSport Schools Register now

The Tralies were involved in another big derby only last weekend when they lost to Fichardtpark 33-7.

They take on their other big rivals in the City of Roses this weekend when they make the short trip to Jim Fouché.

JF have had quite an impressive season thus far and will look forward to asserting their dominance over a Sentraal team who have been struggling to realize their potential this year.

JF lost to Fichardtpark by 39-33 in a titanic battle when those two met but managed big wins over the likes of Goudveld (24-21), Bethlehem Voortrekker (36-24) and most recently Randburg (40-31).

Their captain and talisman, Stefan Venter, has been phenomenal for his side, scoring many of their tries himself and managing the lineouts expertly, he slots into his natural hooker position as JF is bolstered by the return of their flanker Ruan Heymans

The Jim Fouché scrumhalf, Tristan van der Walt, has also more than proved his worth, distributing the ball well and taking on the conversion duties for his team.

Wiandro Wiese starts at centre and will cherish the opportunity to claim the position as his own.

Sentraal have been relying on their big forwards to carry the ball, with the Marnus Earle (hooker), Van Zyl Hetzel (prop) and AJ Senekal (prop) making most of the metres for the Tralies so far this season.

They were without the services of Senekal for their fixture against Fichardtpark and the burly tighthead’s absence was evident on the field, they have to make do without him again this weekend.

Fichardtpark are also in action, travelling to the west to Jacobsdal to play Landboudal.

The Fichie Lions are on an incredible 11-match unbeaten streak this season and will look to keep building momentum with another big win against the Lanties.

Landboudal will need to regroup after suffering a heavy 70-12 defeat against Marlow at the GWK Agri-schools Fest, but they have also shown what they are capable of with strong performances to beat Goudveld (25-22) and Sentraal (43-22) earlier in the season.

Fichardtpark are still without their star winger, Edward Mpinga, whose season has been interrupted by injury after he got off to a flying start. Rubin Visagie will look to make his mark as he gets the opportunity to start in place of Mpinga.

The team from Bloem are also without their stalwart hooker, Jaco Janse van Rensburg. He is replaced by Luhan du Plessis.

They can still rely on some of their other big playmakers like Devante Claassen (scrumhalf) and Dailen Geldenhuys (flyhalf) who have played very well this year and are definitely in with a shot at making the Craven week squad if they continue performing at their current level.

Saint Andrew’s welcomes Cornwall Hill College from Centurion for their big annual derby.

When these two met last year in Gauteng, Cornwall Hill College emerged victorious, beating the Bloemfontein side 26-0.

Saints will want to set the record straight on their home turf.

Bloemfontein High and Sand du Plessis both travel for their games on Saturday.

Bloemfontein High face Brandfort, who managed a convincing 31-7 victory over President Steyn last weekend and will hope to build on that momentum.

Sannies travel to Reddersburg to play Hendrik Potgieter in what is bound to be an exciting battle between the structured attacking play of the Hendrik Potgieter forward-pack and the backline flair of Sand du Plessis.
