Glenwood go up to Maritzburg College
It has become the major KwaZulu Natal schools rugby encounter – Maritzburg College and Glenwood – this year at Goldstones. And this year it’s an FNB Classic Clash.
In the days of Skonk Nicholson, College dominated but in recent times, as Glenwood have put in a greater, more concerted effort and College have lost something of their aura of invincibility, Glenwood have become the ones with winning ways. In the last six years the boys from Umbilo have won six, College two and two have been drawn. One of those College wins was in 2010 when they were expected to lose. They won a handsome 35-16.
This year both schools have given DHS a hiding, both have lost to Paul Roos and both have been too good for Michaelhouse. The only other opponent they have in common is Framesby of Port Elizabeth, Glenwood beat them by two points while College drew with them 16-16.
Glenwood have played somehow stronger opposition but have improved of late when they included a win over the powerful Paarl Boys” High side. Early on College had a good win over Grey PE.
One would expect home ground to be an advantage for College.
