Wynberg outmuscles Bishops on the Piley Rees

Wynberg Boys’ High continued their electric run of form, beating Bishops Diocesan College 35-8 on a stormy Piley Rees Field on Saturday.
Their star no. 10, Yaqeen Ahmed, contributed 15 points against their peninsular rivals to help keep their stunning unbeaten streak alive for yet another week.
The marauding Wynberg troops scored at their first opportunity, with their lively little scrumhalf, Tyrone Gombe, darting over for the first five-pointer.
Fullback, Morné Noble, extended their lead, slicing through the hosts’ defences to score from his own half before Bishops got off the mark through a Jordan Petersen penalty conversion on the half-time whistle.
After some ominous weather delayed the restart, Wynberg cooked up their own storm in the second half, outscoring the hosts by 21-5 after the break.
Levi Brown, Jaythen Orange and Ahmed crossed the whitewash for the visitors, who cruised to an impressive victory.
Yusuf Ahmed got one back for the Bishops’ boys, but they’ll want to regroup before travelling to take on SACS on the coming weekend.
SACS impressed against Paarl Gimnasium on Saturday and both SACS and Bishops will be desperate to lift their morale with a good win.
Wynberg will try to extend their dominant run when they take on Rondebosch Boys’ High.
‘Bosch comfortably beat Melkbosstrand 45-13. They appear to be finding a real rhythm after overrunning SACS 55-22 last weekend.
Their big no. 8, Collin Paul Kemp, scored a hattrick against the Melkies and Carl Geddie went over the whitewash twice.
The hosts’ flyhalf, Joel Maree, accounted for all their points, with a try and a converted penalty.
The comeback kings, Milnerton High School, were almost on the receiving end of a dose of their own medicine in their first home fixture of the season against Hoërskool Bellville.
After the Sellidon twins and Litha Tasana gave Milnerton into a comfortable lead, Bellville clawed their way back into the game and were it not for an ill-fated conversion attempt striking the poles in the final moments of the contest, they would have gone all the way. The kick, however, stayed out and Milnerton was able to hold on for an epic 29-28 victory.
Chadlin Sellidon and Tasana crossed for tries, while Chadwin Sellidon contributed the rest of their points with the boot.
Meanwhile, Bosmandam edged past Bellville THS in a nailbiter by one point, winning 17-16.
