Gysbert WegePaarl Boys’ High started their tour through Gauteng with a bang thanks to a 40-run victory Friday over Waterkloof.

Waterkloof defeated both Boishaai’s other two opponents, Affies and Pretoria Boys’ High, earlier in the season during their league matches.

It was captain, Gysbert Wege, who was leading from the front with both the bat and ball to help secure this magnificent victory. Wege (113) recorded his century off only 110 deliveries. His innings included nine fours and seven sixes.

He rounded off his performance with a five-wicket haul (5/42) to help restrict the home side to only 263 runs.

Lieben Engelbrecht (81*) also weighed in with a half-century as the team from Paarl reached 303/7 in their allotted 50 overs.

It however must be mentioned that Waterkloof was without Hardus Coetzer (SA u19 camp) and Alex Volschenk (Namibia u19). This means that there were 20 overs of which they lost the core of their bowling attack from which Boishaai managed to take the initiative.

After the high of Friday’s victory, the visiting team was quickly knocked off their high with Pretoria Boys’ High securing a four-wicket victory thanks to their captain, Pieter Pretorius

Pretorius (3/30) was the pick of the bowlers as his side restricted Boishaai to 167 runs. André Segaar also caused the visiting team some problems as he picked up three wickets at the cost of 34 runs.

Stefan Breuninger (69) managed to provide some resistance with the bat in hand for Boishaai. Robert Jordaan (42) and Pretorius (34*) were the main contributors with the bat as Pretoria Boys’ High reached the target within the 41st over.

Boishaai concluded their tour with an 89-run victory over the Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool of Pretoria. Captain Wege was again leading from the front as he scored 88 runs as his side managed 278/7 in their allotted overs. Lieben Engelbrecht (60) and Riaan Leibolt (52) both weighed in with half-centuries.

Affies were bowled out for 189 runs with Henno Harding (41) and Jaques Lambrecht (30) providing some resistance. Johan Wege (3/29) was the pick of the visiting side’s bowlers.
