Tygerberg and Milnerton victorious in Switch Schools SA20

Tygerberg High vs Settlers High
The Vikings Cricket Club, in Goodwood, Cape Town, played host to a first round match in the Switch Schools SA20 – Volume Two on Wednesday, with Settlers High and Tygerberg High facing off.
Bellville’s Settlers won the toss and elected to field first, and while Tygerberg was inconsistent with the bat they strung together enough strong moments to carry them to a 41-run victory.
Opener Lance de Mink was the most impressive of the Parow school’s batting lineup, knocking 33 runs off 27 balls, five of which he dispatched for four.
Tygerberg struggled to build momentum, and Braden Korasie claimed 2/15 in three overs, while Zack van Niekerk collected 2/22 in four overs, but Settlers let themselves down badly by conceding 37 extras, 35 of which were from wides.
Thanks to that big contribution, Tygerberg was able to post 127/9 from their 20 overs.
In the Settlers’ run chase, Korasie, their leading bowler, also led the side’s batting effort, striking four fours and a six in his hasty 31 off 20 deliveries. Unfortunately for him, he lacked support, with no other batsmen reaching double figures.
Tygerberg also struggled with wides and extras, sending down 15 and giving up 25 extras in total, but they had more than enough in hand when the 20 overs were up, with Settlers on 86/7.
Noah Kermis was the pick of the bowlers, snapping up 2/9 in four overs, while Sebastian Cook claimed 2/12 in four, and Cayden Louw took 2/17.
Milnerton High vs Parklands College
On Wednesday, Milnerton High chose to bowl first on the Milnerton Oval when the toss went their way in their Switch Schools SA20 match against Parklands College.
That call didn’t pay off, though, as Ethan Randall and Joshua Neil piled on 65 runs for the first wicket, with Randall scoring 45 off 41, including nine fours. Neil hit an unbeaten 40 off 46, holding down one end for his entire innings, which also featured two fours and a six.
Blaine Fisher, who replaced Ethan Randall in the middle, weighed in with a rapid 39 off 25, cracking five fours and a maximum, while he and Neil added 51 runs for the second wicket.
After 20 overs, Parklands College had made it to a decent looking 152/2.
Millies’ bowling efforts weren’t particularly fruitful, but Ryan Gretschel‘s 1/22 in four overs stood out as he kept a lid on the Parklands College scoring.
On the other hand, the hosts’ batting produced exciting results. From the start of Milnerton’s innings, opener Daniel Bloemetjie made his intentions clear, sending nine balls to the boundary as he hurried along to 55 off 46. After his departure, though, Milnerton’s run rate dropped until Ryan Trollip and Ryan Gretschel came to the rescue.
With good running between the wickets, Trollip hit an unbeaten 19 off 14 and Gretschel added 17 off 12 to see their team to a six-wicket victory with 14 balls to spare. Only seven of the 27 balls they faced were dot balls. Before they got together, the Millies’ innings included 40 dots from 79 balls.
