Cricket Ball on BatPaarl Boys’ High vs St. John’s College (50-overs)

St. John’s won the toss in Richmond and elected to field first against Paarl Boys’ High on Monday. A fine effort in the field set the Johannesburg side up to chase down a moderate total, and they came through with a three-wicket victory.

Boishaai was limited to only 125 all out in 35.3 overs, but AB Jacobs resisted the St John’s onslaught, scoring 21, while Peter Gildenhuis mustered 20 on a pitch that favoured the bowlers.

David Ireland was at the heart of the St John’s bowling attack, delivering a memorable performance of 5/24 from eight overs.

The Johannesburg side began their run chase strongly, led by opener Nkosana Sibiya, who tallied 61 off 95 balls, which included walloping five fours and a six. Around him, though, he saw partners come and go.

Sibiya’s innings was decisive, however, and he took his side to within two runs of victory before departing. Three balls later, St John’s brought the contest to a close.

Keanu February and Aden Batt bowled well, but Paarl Boys’ High let themselves down with an untidy performance by sending down 20 wides and conceding 22 extras. In a low-scoring game, that was telling.

Paarl Gimnasium vs CSA Hub Invitational XI (50-overs)

At the Lynwood Club, the CSA Hub Invitational XI won the toss and chose to field first. Paarl Gimnasium, with a committed performance at the crease, posted 208 all out.

Opener Matt Dippenaar stuck around for a while to help build up the innings, scoring 38 runs off 96 balls, while Charles King was Gimmies‘ highest scorer for a second day in succession, cracking two fours and two sixes in his 46, which came at almost a run a ball.

Mpontsheng Mashalane bowled superbly, claiming 3/11 in three overs, while Taywin Adams collected 2/27 in seven overs, but also bowled 11 wides.

When the CSA Hub XI batted, Daveric Peterson put up 22 off 47 before being dismissed LBW by Charles King. His was, however, a very lonely resistance as six of his teammates were dismissed on a single or less.

Beon Swanepoel was dynamite, bowling an accurate attacking line to earn four LBWs and figures of 5/24 from 10 overs.

King, meanwhile, followed up his good batting performance with a sharp bowling contribution, sending down three maidens in his 3/15 from seven overs.

In just 21.1 overs, the Hub XI was bowled out for a disappointing 66.
