St Andrew’s College strengthens football programme with appointment of Eurico Marques
St Andrew’s College has appointed Eurico Marques as the Makhanda school’s Interim Master in Charge of Football in an effort to enhance and strengthen their football programme.
“We would like to welcome Eurico Marques as the Interim Master in Charge of Football at St Andrew’s College”, the school wrote in a media statement.
He was immediately thrust into action, immersing himself in football trials, which were held on the past weekend, with 120 boys participating. His experience should prove valuable for St Andrew’s.
Now, 33, he received a Physiotherapy qualification from the University of Witwatersrand in 2012 and has extensive experience in sports and healthcare. It’s not his first time at College. He served as a physiotherapist at the school from 2017 to 2020.
Marques also played professional football for Moroka Swallows. His father is well known coach Zeca Marques, whose career included three stints as manager of the Dube Birds.
The younger Marques’ returns to St Andrew’s College after serving the Balderstone Sports Insitute (BSI) Football Academy in Johannesburg, of which he was a founding shareholder and director. BSI has partnerships with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Premier League and Farense in the Portuguese Superliga.
In a statement on social media, St Andrew’s College said: “In his role as the Director of Performance and Physiotherapist at the BSI, Eurico was instrumental in developing young football talents through comprehensive training programmes that blended professional football training with academic and character development.
“Eurico has played and worked in the professional football industry, fulfilling roles in senior and youth professional setups, and has experience in the South African and United Kingdom education sectors.
“His extensive experience and dedication to developing young athletes, ensuring they receive top-notch training and care to reach their full potential, is a hallmark of his career in the sporting and education sectors that he has been involved in for almost a decade.”
