It has not been an easy ride in 2023 for St Albans having come off a string of losses, four in a row. They will want to make use of their home support this weekend to help aid them in their efforts of putting a much needed win under their belts.
The side last won a match when they played St David’s Marist.
The Candies have had a mixed bag of results thus far this season having lost to Maritzburg College and King Edward VII, but will take pride in what was a successful Grey Festival outing last weekend in the Eastern Cape.
Having beaten an Invitational XV and SACS the side has the momentum going forward into this fixture.
St Albans will be looking towards captain Luke Webber to lead the charge and will need him to be on top of his game, as Boys High have a strong front row centered around Shaun Schurman in the hooker position. Winning the scrums will be a crucial part of this match up.
St Albans’ John-Joshua Steenkamp had a good Easter Weekend Festival at St Stithians College earlier in the season and will be looking to impress.
Pretoria Boys’ High have a formidable squad this year and will be banking on some key players to gel together to build on their run of recent form. Joshua Naude has had a good season thus far, he has put up his hand as one to watch out for.
He will be looking at winning the ball for his side to put full-back Kyle Hezlett into strong positions, who has recently swapped with Tebogo Nchabeleng who now finds himself in the all important number ten jersey.
On paper the Candies go into this match as favorites but should not underestimate the Blue and the Grey, who have been known to come into this fixture and have caused several upsets in years gone by.
