School Rugby Results – 23 February 2019
The NWU-Pukke 16-series kicked off this weekend with Pionier and Leeuwenhof leading the charge. Pionier came out 37-19 victors over Piet Retief, while Leeuwenhof didn’t experience too much trouble in downing Bekker of Magaliesburg by 31-12.
The annual President Steyn Sports Day in Bainsvlei just outside Bloemfontein moved to earlier the season. The hosts struggled in the main match against Grey College’s sixth team losing by 57-10. Jim Fouché started their season with a bang defeating Riebeeckstad by 41-7.
North of the Vaalriver a couple of teams played friendly matches to sort out last minute kinks before their respective competitions kicks off.

Hannes Nienaber covered schools' rugby in South Africa for Volksblad, Beeld, and Rapport for 11 years. He also created the biggest school rugby website in South Africa - School of Rugby - back in 2007. It eventually morphed into Supersport Schools Plus. He still occasionally milks cows.
