Purple People Eaters names their provisional squads for national weeks

It’s no surprise that the Griffon selectors named ten players from Welkom Gimnasium in their provisional Craven Week side for the prestigious tournament later this year in Krugersdorp.
This year’s Craven Week presented by Stadio will be hosted at Monument in Krugersdorp from 24 until 29 June.
Four players who represented the Griffons at last year’s edition in George – Cecil Parsons (tighthead prop), Buhle Ngxabayi (loosehead prop), Jayden Auld (lock) and Lungile Samson (prop) are named in the provisional squad.
Another six players represented the Griffons at the Academy Week in Johannesburg last year. They are Jan Coetzee (hooker), Oyama Frans (lock), Rylen Kirsten (flank), Kenyon Moerat, Kganya Molapo (hooker) and Revaldo Farmer (scrumhalf).
JC van Rhyn (outside centre) and Reabetswe Olifant (flanker) are players who made the grade from the Grant Khomo Week team of 2023 straight into the Craven Week side.
The Griffons will face the Free State in their opening match in Krugersdorp. The last time these two sides met at the week was back in 2015 in Stellenbosch when the Purple People Eaters came out on top by 41-27. Gift Dlamini and Richman Gora were two of the Griffons’ stars in this famous victory.
The Purple People Eaters will be coached by Roean Bezuidenhout (Welkom Gimnasium) with Taro Maarman (Hentie Cilliers) and Andries Kruger (Hentie Cilliers) as his assistants.
Maarman represented the Griffons’ senior side in 145 matches, while Kruger also boasts a total of 51 appearances for the senior side.
The team manager is Frans Crous (Goudveld-Hoërskool) who has coached the Griffons’ Grant Khomo Week-side for the last couple of years.
