Preview – HTS Drostdy vs. Worcester Gimnasium
Worcester Gym play hosts to HTS Drostdy as part of a raft of interschool activities, culminating with the 1st XV match on Saturday – all part of an FNB Classic Clash.
The 1st XV matchg is not one you would expect Drostdy, who rejoice in the name Donkeys, to lose. They play their rugby in different company.
Drostdy plays top schools all over South Africa and is always on or close to the FNB Top 20.
This year Drostdy have beaten Menlopark of Pretoria, Rustenburg, Glenwood of Durban, Stellenberg of Cape Town, Harmony of Virginia in the Free State, Strand and Charlie Hofmeyr of Ceres. They have lost to Transvalia of Vereeniging, Oakdale of Riversdale and Monument of Johannesburg,
Worcester Gymnasium have lost more than they have played, even though at a tier below Drostdy. They lost to Hermanus, Hugenote of Wellington, Swartland, Despatch and Oudtshoorn. Their victories have been over Bellville, Otto du Plessis and Milnerton.
The only team they have in common is Hugenote of Wellington. Drostdy beat them 19–3 while Gym lost to them 46-16, There is clear disparity there.
There is even talk of another 2010 result. That was when Drostdy won 58-7. But them came 2011 when Drostdy battled to win 15-9 and then the 15-all draw in 2012.
You may well expect the Donkeys to win but the unlikely is not impossible.
