Middelburg shock Transvalia, Zwartkop victorious against Klerksdorp
Hoërskool Middelburg managed to shock Transvalia beating them 39-20 in their SDC Noordvaal Cup Plate-clash on Saturday.
The Middelburg men made good use of their home ground advantage as they put the visitors under pressure from the get-go. The home side kept their composure and managed to stay structured it a game that seemed to be getting bit loose.
As expected, it came down to which pack could gain the upper hand. The foundation was laid by the Middies big men upfront who asserted their dominance early on which meant that the dangerous backline could get on the front foot to exploit an of the boil Transvalia defence.
Fumani Chauke led the charge with another very impressive performance, announcing his physical presence in the trenches and with ball in hand. Chauke also crossed the whitewash to score a well-deserved try for the home side.
Transvalia struggled to keep up with the tempo ass it became clear that the extensive traveling in the last couple of weeks started to take its toll. With poor discipline creeping in it gave the Middies the opening they needed to seal the deal and claim a very important victory in term of their contention for a playoff spot.
Although, Transvalia’s good performances thus far means that they will most certainly feature among the top four in the division to battle it out for a place in the final.
Zwartkop claimed an impressive victory away from home, beating Klerksdorp by 27-23 with a brilliant effort from the points machine, Danilson Metcalfe, who broke through the defences to score a match winner in the last minute.
Zwarries have built up some good momentum over the last couple of weeks and a victory against Klerksdorp in Klerskdorp will definitely have their spirits high heading into their last pool fixture next week.
Klerskdorp showed some real promising signs with a good performance dominating the scrums with front rower Luam Pretorius standing out. Having struggled throughout most of the season it seemed like they hit their straps and will look forward to ending on a high as they still search for their first victory of the campaign.
