Ligbron secure spot in playoffs, Lichtenburg sign season of on a high
Ligbron Akademie secured their spot in the playoffs by beating Hugenote of Springs by 34-26 in the decider of who will finish in the fourth spot.
Ligbron’s comeback will be something spoken about for a long time, coming from nearly last to qualify for the semi-finals.
The team from Ermelo has won their four encounters and has impressed many with their attractive brand of rugby. Saturday was no different as the visitors stuck to their guns, throwing the ball around and showcasing their brilliant handling skills.
The danger men in the midfield Qhawe Lukhele (outside centre) and Sithelo Zikhali (inside centre) was at the forefront as the pair continuously wreaked havoc among the Hugenote defenders getting their team on the front foot.
The platform was laid upfront by the ever-present Ayanda Mkwebane who had yet another outstanding outing in the number six jersey. Mkwebane has been instrumental for the Ermelo based side, showcasing his talent on attack and being a thorn in the side come ruck time.
For the home side there was none better than the paceman out wide, Ruan van Biljon, who rounded of two excellent tries. Not only did van Biljon contribute on attack but had a solid outing on defence as well and provided some much needed empathise for Hugenote with both teams looking to get their dangerous backlines on the front foot.
Ligbron’s celebrations will be short lived as they now set their sights on overcoming an unbeaten Secunda in their semi-final next week.
Lichtenburg put together an impressive performance on home soil to sign their season of on a high by beating Ben Vorster 32-17. The men from North West had the upper hand from the start and continued to use their opportunities to put points on the board, where as the visitors looked out of sorts and struggled to capitalise on the opportunities going their way.
Lichtenburg’s stalwart in the midfield, Antonio Vasjel, was exceptional with an impressive all-round performance, a performance judged good enough to earn the accolade for man of the match.
Secunda added yet another victory to their tally beating Heidelberg Volkskool 38-28 away from home which also meant they went unbeaten throughout the pool stages and will now look continue their impressive form and hard work as they welcome Ligbron next week.
Oos-Moot also signed of their pool stage on a high with a victory over Jeugland in Kempton Park as they came out on top 34-17. The men from Pretoria will face a tougher test as they welcome a dangerous and unpredictable Heidelberg Volkskool side for their semi-final in Pretoria next week as they look to keep their hunt for silverware alive.
