Klofies are becoming the Harry Houdinis of schoolboy rugby
Hoërskool Waterkloof snatched another victory at the death during the annual NMI Toyota Menlyn Noord/Suid-tournament in Pretoria.
Klofies defeated Glenwood High School by 32-28 in a closely contested encounter at Affies. Flanker Dewald Muller scored the match-winning try with seconds left on the clock.
Muller also scored a few minutes earlier to bring his side within touching distance of Glenwood.
Klofies definitely have become the Harry Houdinis of schoolboy rugby. They’ve also bagged a last minute victory on the first day of the festival against HTS Drostdy (22-19) thanks to a last-minute penalty by Franco Cronje.
Last year during the Wildeklawer-tournament in Kimberley the Klofies also pulled a rabbit out of the hat to produce victories over Diamantveld (19-17) and HTS Drostdy (15-14).
Besides Muller the hooker, Stephan Jacobsz, as well as the prop Luan Brown could feel more than content with their performances.
For Glenwood their fullback, Jaco Williams, looked impressive everytime he got the ball in hand. He troubled the team from Pretoria with his elusive running from the back. He rounded off his try after a movement that he started himself in his side’s 22.
Winger Okanta Chijindu also performed well on attack and crossed the tryline once to take his tally for this year’s tournament to five tries. Glenwood eighthman, Zukisani Tom, also produced a solid performance and scored a try which he could brag about for the rest of the year.
Dr. EG Jansen of Boksburg secured a narrow 23-22 against HTS Drostdy in the first match of the third day of the NMI Toyota Menlyn Noord/Suid-tournament.
The Jansies enjoyed a 15-10 lead at the break in a clash that could’ve went either way. The team from Boksburg probably deserved a bigger lead at the break, but they couldn’t manage to convert their attacking possession into more points.
EG’s eighthman, Nathan Matthee, as well as lock Reon Pretorius performed really well in the victory. For Drostdy their flanker Etienne Claasen deserves a pat on the back for his performance.
