The Currie Cup, won by Griquas this year, also made an appearance at the Wildeklawer Diamantveld T20 Tournament. Next to it is the trophy that is up for grabs on Saturday. Photo: Hoërskool Diamantveld on Facebook.

The second day’s action in Kimberley, at Hoërskool Diamantveld’s Wildeklawer T20 Tournament, got underway bright and early as the first session kicked off with the chickens at 07:30 on Friday morning.

As the flagship Wildeklawer T20 tournament, the Kimberley event aligns with the Wildeklawer tournament taking place at the same time in Pretoria.

Helpmekaar Kollege‘s Zuan Joubert seemed to have had a good night’s rest, as his innings of 82 not out made him the leading run scorer since the start of the tournament on Thursday afternoon, and led his side to a 40-run victory over Oakdale Landbou. Joubert currently sits on 120 runs in his two outings.

Sebastian Kloek‘s 73 also helped the Helpies to achieve a sizeable score of 208/3 in the allotted 20 overs. The bowlers obliged thereafter to restrict Oakdale to 168/3, but not before Rico Ferreira smashed the highest score of the tournament thus far, a whopping 90 not out from only 46 deliveries. He struck six fours and six sixes, and, although in vain, set Kimberly Boys’ High‘s oval alight.

Hoërskool Garsfontein came out on top in an all-Pretoria affair with Hoërskool Montana, winning comfortably by eight wickets. Stalwart Jarred Carr‘s 4/26 played a crucial part in the victory as it restricted the Monties to a meagre 132/9 in the allotted 20 overs.

Righardt Joubert and the ever-impressive Reuben van Zyl handled the chase with ease. Joubert led the way with an unbeaten half-century (54*), whilst Van Zyl contributed 35. Marco Rudolph was the standout for the Monties with a well-played 50 against a powerful Garsfontein bowling attack.

Stellenberg handled Framesby with an 87-run victory, thanks to the batting heroics of Roux Wasserman and JJ Rothman. Wasserman was the main contributor in Stellies’ innings of 185/7, scoring 78 of the runs. Rothman added a significant contribution with 58, as the pair combined for 73.5% of the team’s total.

Jan-Jak Alberts followed up with the spell of the tournament so far. In just 2.5 overs, he dismantled Framesby with astonishing figures of 5/12, an exceptional feat in the shorter form of the game.

The CBC Invitational overcame Parel Vallei by a convincing seven wickets, thanks to 49 from Faizaan Kajee and 41 not out from Kieran Adams in their chase of 127. Adams’ innings followed his heroics with the ball, where he claimed 3/15 in three overs.

Hans Moore, despite only getting to 127/5 in their allotted 20 overs, beat HTS Drostdy by 43 runs. Sohil Jugnath (32) and Xavier Coetzee (31*) both passed the 30-run mark, whereafter Xavier van Biljon picked up 2/17 as Drostdy could only manage 84/7 in their 20 overs.

The next two rounds will also take place later on Friday, after which the Final will be played on Saturday.
