NewsG JimFoucheJim Fouché ultimately managed a comfortable 38-17 victory over Sentraal in their FNB Classic Clash after their neighbours gave them a couple of scares early on.

The first half was a tightly contested affair, as the home team only managed to break through the Tralie defence once, when their big loosehead, Bernard Labuschagne, powered over for the opening try.

Sentraal were resolute in defence, even though JF enjoyed much of the possession early on and when their captain and centre, Hanco Smith, scored just before half-time, it looked as if the Tralies might have something up their sleeve for the big derby.

The home team regained control in the second half, scoring five more to pull away and secure the win.

CJ Raath, Jim Fouché’s impressive flanker, powered through the tacklers, stretched to score and began building a lead for the home team again.

Sentraal struck back again though, through none other than the returning AJ Senekal, their prop who had been a standout player for them before his injury a few weeks ago.

After that however, JF opened up the flood gates and Hanko Botha (flyhalf), Triston van der Walt (scrumhalf), Calvin Bolt (nr. 8) and of course, their captain and try-scoring machine, Stefan Venter (hooker), all managed to cross the line and take the game out of reach of the challengers.

Venter had a great game again, and Van der Walt was a menace around the rucks and was kicking well on the day.

Were it not for a lengthy stop in play as a couple of injuries were rightly attended to, the score line may have been a bit nastier, as the Sentraal boys seemed to have their wind knocked out of them by the JF onslaught in the second half.

Fichardtpark extended their unbeaten streak to 12 games this season in a thriller against Landboudal of Jacobsdal.

The Lanties were in it to the very end, with only two points separating them from the Fichie Lions when the final whistle blew.

The accuracy of Dailen Geldenhuys, the Fichardpark flyhalf, who expertly converted all three tries, made the difference in the end.

Luhan du Plessis (hooker) who replaced Jaco Janse van Rensburg in the starting lineup for this game played exceptionally and scored a brace for the team from Bloemfontein.

In Reddersburg, Sterling Batties, the centre, scored 16 points for Hendrik Potgieter in their 46-10 victory over Sand du Plessis.

Batties scored two tries and kicked three conversions to help his team in the main event of the day’s activities.

Brandfort got their revenge against Bloemfontein High, beating the visitors 61-12.

Last year, Bloemfontein HS beat Brandfort 24-21 for the first time ever, and the hosts were not about to allow a repeat of that incident.

For Bloem High, Duan Visagie (hooker) carried the ball strongly and managed their lineouts well and Caydon Ontong looked dangerous with the ball in hand and was solid in defence.

Brandforts big no. 8, Wehan Strydom, seemed unstoppable though and scored four tries.

JC Venter (lock) and Altus Coetzee (scrumhalf) also scored a brace each, taking the game out of reach of the visitors.

For the home team, it was the flyhalf, Henré Smith, who stood out, along with his big forwards, Strydom and Venter.
