NewsG Durban High School RugbyIt was expected beforehand that Stellenberg would have too much firepower for Noord-Kaap of Kimberley, but the team from Bellville had to work much harder for the victory than what the 36-7 scoreline suggests.

The two teams met each other on the second day of the annual Absa Wildeklawer Festival in Kimberley. All the matches are streamed live by

Stellenberg was in control early on but some excellent cover defence kept the visitors from converting the pressure into points. And it was an intercept by Northerns’ outside centre, Keanon Davids, which produced the opportunity for winger Keante Pienaar to open the score sheet.

The Jade Brigade‘s inside centre, Damian Markus, however made sure his side reacted immediately by scoring the first of his two tries. Markus was once again a stalwart for Stellenberg.

As usual Stellenberg’s scrumhalf, Aiden Muller, also put in an excellent performance. Flanker Wessel Joubert can also feel more than happy with his performance for the winning side.

Northerns’ winger Pienaar put in a massive performance on defence, while the scrumhalf, Bryan Kenny, as well as the midfield pairing of Guvandre Moses and Davids, also experienced a good day at the office.

Durban High School produced an impressive performance to down Menlopark by 31-10 in their first-ever clash at the Absa Wildeklawer Festival. The side from Durban had a mere 12-10 lead at the break but shifted a gear or two in the second half to secure a convincing victory.

DHS’ inside centre, Dwight Petersen, produced a powerful performance. He was solid in the midfield and caused Menlopark’s defence some serious problems with his strong bullocking runs.

The winning side’s flyhalf, Deono Boesak, also enjoyed a good day at the office. Boesak is a plan maker which keeps the Horseflies’ backline on the front foot.

For Menlopark their captain and flanker, Tiaan Engelbrecht, put his body on the line and tried his best to keep his team in the game. He completed a brace of tries.
