Framesby‘s visit to the Western Cape produced some fireworks as the school from Gqeberha delivered a strong showing on Saturday, day two of their two-day battle against Somerset College.

After Callum Hughes (4/21) and Chad Ayford (3/22) caused the visitors some early trouble, which kept them to 159 all out in their first innings, the Framesby batsmen more than doubled their output in their second innings, posting 321/9.

The Somerset boys doggedly stayed in the fight, even after their first innings fell apart. They tallied only 106 all out as Miles Feltham (4/6) and Juan Grigor (4/34) did the damage.

Hanro van Jaarsveld then stole the show, scoring a massive 152 runs off of 165 deliveries in Framesby’s second innings. He was supported well by Dewan Wessels, Durandt Rootman and Taine Douw, who were all dismissed within touching distance of half-centuries.

Somerset’s second innings started strongly, with Chad Ayford (55), Owethu Moyi (42) and Eden Scott (48) laying a solid foundation for the locals.

Jonno Firth then smashed 10 boundaries in his 74, but the home side was still 132 runs shy of the victory target when play came to an end.

Both teams will be back in action on Sunday, when Somerset College, Framesby, Hoërskool Outeniqua and Wellington College, from the UK, contest a T20 tournament in Somerset West.
