Green Machine earns 33-21 victory in battle against the Knights

Glenwood were clearly here to play from the start, and it showed in the final result of 33-21. The Green Machine made quick work of gaining ground and getting near to the Knights try line. 

When a penalty was awarded to Glenwood, Andrew Martins kicked the ball out metres before the try line. There was obviously a larger strategy at play, as Keegan Goosen used the lineout to give a short ball to Tyrique Hartnick, Hartnick returned it to Goosen and it was try time for Glenwood. 

Johandrê van Rooyen put the conversion through, and Glenwood was seven up at the seven-minute mark. 

Glenwood did a great job of putting pressure on Northwood, the Knights had possession and tried to kick downfield to gain some ground; van Rooyen and MJ Schoeman dived in front on the ball, chased it down and Schoeman earned a try for Glenwood. 

Van Rooyen’s second conversion brought their lead to a solid 14-0.

Northwood came back in the second half with a new sense of determination, Siyanda Nkosi earned the Knights their first try of the game. Alu Nte sprinted towards Glenwood’s try line, offloaded to Nkosi and they were back in the game. 

Cade Latham made the conversion to add some more momentum and narrow the gap.

Glenwood quickly responded by capitalizing on a loose pass, Okonta Chijindu chased it down and scored a try in the far-right corner.

The remainder of the game saw Northwood taking control, Kwenzo Dlamini broke through Glenwood’s defence and made the long run to score a try and Latham made the kick. 

Some great passing down the line landed with ball with Nokuthenda Gunda who scored in the far-left corner. 

With Latham’s third successful conversion, they had certainly narrowed the gap, however, Glenwood had gained too large of a lead and went on to win the game with a solid victory.
