It might only be the first weekend back from the mid-year school holidays, however, hockey fans in the Eastern Cape will be treated to some quality matches.

A total of seven teams, making it 14 teams will take to the field with hopes of kicking off a new term on the high.

Grey High School, coached by Mazan Dos Santos, and managed by Corbyn Dolley will travel from Gqeberha to George where they will face York High in what will be their reunion.

Down in East London, several schools will be battling it out for the City’s bragging rights.

Selborne College, who have been the side to beat all year will take the 20-minute drive to face Hudson Park on Friday night.

The boys in black, and white, were outstanding in the first two terms of the year. They defeated every school in the Town, while also claiming the sculps of rivals Dale College and Queens College.

Their skipper, Ben van der Merwe played exceptionally well to the point where he earned himself a call-up to the South African U18 B team.

As for the home side, Hudson Park, it will be more of a case of not conceding too many goals. The side has been shaky this season, with a fairly young squad.

However, with that said, they’ve managed to beat Stirling High School (2-1) closer to the end of last term whereas before that they defeated Queens College (1-0).

The side will be relying on the likes of Dante May, Helio Ruiters and Vizi Booysen if they are to upset Selborne.

In the other matches, Queens College will travel three hours from Komani to face Merrifield College on Friday.

Whilst in Makhanda, St Andrews will welcome Cambridge High School. Stirling High School will host Dale College.

Gqeberha will also have some fixtures with Alexander Road High School, and Framesby hosting Kingswood College on Friday and Saturday respectively.
