Everything to play for at the second day of the Marius Schoeman u15 Sevens-tournament

The group stage of the 2023 Marius Schoeman u15 Sevens-tournament lived up to all expectations.

While some of the favourites, like Paarl Boys’ High, Oakdale and the hosts, Paarl Gimnasium, reasserted their dominance before the Round of 16 playoffs tomorrow morning, there were also a few unexpected results.

In group C, Forward Foundation went unbeaten over HTS Drostdy, Strand and Hoërskool Bellville.

This means HTS Drostdy will need to get through Boland Landbou tomorrow for a spot in the Cup quarter-finals, as they end second in their pool.

There was nothing to separate Paul Roos Gimnasium and Stellenberg in their fixture.

After Robert Hewitt scored a sensational try to draw the first blood for Stellenberg, the Paul Roos boys fought back hard to draw level at 12-all.

The u15 team from Stellenbosch went unbeaten during the regular 15-man season, and their sevens teams experienced their first loss last weekend at the Bredasdorp Sevens Tournament against this weekend’s hosts, Paarl Gimnasium by 21-7 in the semi-final.

They finish on top of their pool because they have the best point difference, beating Stellenberg by a single point.

Both still have a chance to progress to the Cup quarter-finals tomorrow where either could very well go all the way. Stellenberg will need to get past Paarl Boys’ High tomorrow though, and Paul Roos face Outeniqua.
