English visitors winless in the Western Cape

Wynberg Boys’ High, Bishops Diocesan College and Parel Vallei saw off challengers from England during the week in games ranging from 20 overs to 35 overs a side.
On Thursday, Wynberg ensured a clean sweep for the Capetonians when they handed Wellington College their second defeat in the space of two days. Bishops had beaten the visitors on Wednesday.
Bishops had set the ball rolling on Tuesday with a big win over Charterhouse. Meanwhile, Parel Vallei took on Dulwich College in a T20 and they cruised to an 82-run win.
Dulwich College, which was founded in 1619, is a private boarding school in London. Old Allenyians, as Dulwich old boys are known, include Sir Ernest Shackleton, Sir PG Wodehouse and English cricket legend, Trevor Bailey.
Sevi Barlow spearheaded the Somerset West school’s batting effort, with an unbeaten knock of 89 runs to help them to 180/2.
Christopher Hughes contributed 22 at nearly a run a ball before he was run out, and Josh Pretorius saw out the innings with Barlow, weighing in with a brisk and unbeaten 53 runs off of 28 balls.

The PV bowlers then restricted the visitors to 98 all out to score a decisive victory, with Henry Jones removing three Dulwichians to reach a memorable milestone as he recorded his 100th wicket for his school.
Adnaan Lagadien scored 84 runs in successive games for Bishops to help his side maintain its unbeaten record this season. On Wednesday he combined with Alex Vintcent (67) to lead Bishops to an 87-run victory over Charterhouse.
Charterhouse is over 400 years in age and its past pupils include Peter May. He made 138 on his test debut against South Africa in 1951, then led the English to a 3-2 series victory over South Africa in 1955.
Waco Bassick, Tiaan Louw and Julian Pilkington each picked up three wickets to see Bishops to victory against one of the few opponents they will play this year which has a history that is older than theirs. The Cape Town school is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year.
The following day, against Wellington College, Vintcent led the charge again, but this time around it was with the ball.
He claimed three wickets in his four overs at a cost of just six runs to end Wellington’s run chase, still 151 runs shy of the 225 scored by Lagadien and company.
Bassick and Tiaan Louw also picked up three wickets apiece against the boys from Berkshire.
On Thursday, in a 35-overs-a-side contest, Wynberg compounded Wellington’s woes, powering their way to a comprehensive victory, thanks to some impressive batting.
Paul James was at the forefront of the Wynberg attack, making 86 not out. SA Schools’ captain Beni Hansen struck a half-century, while Storme van Rooyen added 44 and Shadley Allie a further 39 to lift the target set by Wynberg to 266.
Hugo South batted well for an unbeaten 53, but Wellington were unable to threaten Wynberg’s big total, finishing on 175/6, which included two wickets for Ebrahim Fakir.
The challenges for the locals this coming weekend are likely to be tougher, with Wynberg taking on Affies on Saturday and Bishops playing Paul Roos.
Parel Vallei will seek to continue their momentum when they meet Paarl Gimnasium.
