Charlie Hofmeyr will be looking to end their season strong against Robertson.
Both teams are bolstered by the return of two of their star players. Luan Giliomee from Charlie Hofmeyr, and Bernardo Diedericks from Robertson, were part of the SA u18 Sevens team that earned bronze at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago.
Giliomee slots in at flyhalf for Charlies, while Diedericks might make an appearance off the bench for Robertson.
When these two teams met last year in Robertson, the Charlies had to grind out a 35-34 victory, after Robertson clawed their way back from 28-5 down at halftime.
This match promises to be one of the highlights of the weekend, as both teams have been playing some really exciting rugby this season.
Robertson has had two of their games cancelled after the winter break but showed no signs of rust as they beat Langenhoven Gimnasium 26-12 last weekend.
After a flying start to the season, Charlie Hofmeyr has experienced two losses recently against Montagu (21-17) and Worcester Gimnasium (22-12), and they will be desperate to end their season on a high.
The home team’s winger, Lawrence Jantjies, has been a pillar for his team in Giliomee’s absence. If they can combine well this weekend they can ask a lot of questions of the Robertson defence.
For Robertson, their lively centre, Séan-Douglas Cedras and his lightning-quick winger, Mullan Burger, are two of the dangermen to keep an eye on Saturday.
Charlies are without their big lock, Le Roux Groenewald, and flanker, Tyrone Davids, who are both still recovering from injuries obtained during the season.
Porterville also hosts Piketeberg for their big inter-schools clash this weekend.
Porterville has been one of the standouts in the Boland this year and contributed five players to the Boland Craven Week team that competed in George earlier in the year.
Brendon September (winger), Callum van Staden (scrumhalf), Jandro Phutego (flanker), Ricky Lesch (hooker) and RW Duggan (prop) from Porterville were all selected for the provincial team.
Van Staden is not available for Saturday’s match, but the rest will all be on their posts to try to end their season on a high.
Their challengers are no pushovers though. Piketberg has been playing an exciting brand of rugby all season, spearheaded by the efforts of their evasive centre, Gelermore Baron and his dynamic flyhalf, Altino Pedro.
Worcester Gimnasium will want to draw a line under what has been a very successful season with a strong performance when they visit Hermanus.
Apart from beating most of their local rivals this year, including keeping Charlie Hofmeyr tryless as they handed them a 22-12 defeat in their own backyard, the Gimmies also pulled off a very impressive victory against a highly ranked Durban High School earlier in the season by 36-31 at the annual Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival.
Players like Jovawn Visagie (fullback) and Hope Dliso (winger) have been electric in a bit of space, while Noah Pietersen (prop) and his mates up front have been providing opportunities with their hard work.
When these two teams met last year in Worcester, Gimmies were the victors by 13-10, they will be looking to back that performance up this weekend to draw their season to a close.
Swartland and Hugenote will take each other on for the 47th time as they bring their seasons to a close with a festive finale in Malmesbury
The Faure Stadium in Paarl will be packed for the third consecutive weekend when Paulus Joubert and Noorder-Paarl conclude their seasons with a big inter-school clash this weekend.
To the East, in Oudtshoorn, Langenhoven Gimnasium and Hoërskool Punt are competing in their big derby for a chance to end the season on a high.
Last year, Punt took the spoils with a 10-0 victory, so the Gimmies will be anxious to set the record straight this year.
Despite having a mixed season, Hoërskool Punt showed their steel recently with a big 24-18 victory against Daniel Pienaar from Uitenhage.
