Captain, Osman-Bosch, returns for SACS’ final fixture against Wynberg

SACS are bolstered by the return of their stalwart loosehead prop and captain, Ali Osman-Bosch, this weekend when they travel to Wynberg Boys’ High for their final fixture of the season.

This FNB Classic Clash will be the last time that many of these boys get to run out in their schools’ colours.

Wynberg beat SACS by 30-17 in their own backyard earlier this year when they met for their first clash and SACS will be desperate to end what has been a difficult season on a high by getting their revenge on Saturday.

Wynberg’s star loose-forward, Xola Nyali (eighth man) led from the front in the previous meeting, scoring the opening try.

Nyali has been a standout for his side and was rewarded for his efforts with his inclusion in the SA u18 squad, which he captained against France. He returns just in time to play in his school jersey for one last game.

SACS’ captain, Osman-Bosch, was injured playing against Paul Roos Gimnasium in June, a week after he powered his team to victory with a hat-trick of tries in their 28-10 win against Hoërskool Bellville.

He has been unavailable since then, and returns for the final fixture of his matric year against their arch nemesis.

SACS is coming off another disappointing loss at home after Gilermo Mentoe (fullback) stole a victory for Bishops last weekend with a penalty conversion in the final moments to break the hearts of the SACS boys with a 27-25 defeat.

Wynberg looked sharp against Rondebosch Boys’ High last weekend, but they came up just short by 21-20.

Their Craven Week flyhalf, Yaqeen Ahmed moves to inside centre for the final fixture and Keenan Pretorius steps up to manage the attack from the flyhalf position.

SACS’ big tighthead, Ikhona Maxegwana, has been excellent in his captain’s absence in the front row, and now that Osman-Bosch is back in his position, the two big boys will be looking to dominate up front on the weekend.

The two fullbacks, Xolela Hoyi from Wynberg and Aya Machuli from SACS are also bound to face up one-on-one at some point, with both providing excellent service for their respective teams throughout the year.

Last year, Wynberg managed a double over SACS, beating them by 40-15 in the first encounter, and getting away with a 16-5 victory in the final match.

The last time SACS beat Wynberg was in 2019, when Ian Patterson (flanker), son of former Western Province hooker, Andrew Patterson, was in that SACS team.

Both of these schools take immense pride in their rugby programs and with a rivalry as historically fierce as this, there could be no better way for these boys to see out their school rugby-playing careers.
