The hosts’ u12 team won the tournament last year after beating their neighbouring rivals, Paarl Boys’ Primary in the final.
Bastion was the champion in 2019 and 2018.
Every year, the junior teams compete for bragging rights and prize money, as well as a sought-after scholarship to the prestigious Paarl Gimnasium for one lucky player in the winning team.
Two-time champions, Bastion, and last year’s finalists, Paarl Boys’ Primary, share a pool this year, meaning only one of them can advance to the playoffs for the Cup which sets up a huge battle when these two face each other at 14:00 on the Stofberg field.
The reigning champs, Paarl Gimnasium, are grouped with Durbanville Primary, Kenridge and Drakenstein.
Because of the quality of the opponents and the scale of the event, no one can afford any mistakes during the group stages.
The playoffs will commence on Thursday as soon as the pool games have been concluded.
The pools are:
Pool A – Worcester Primary, Hugenote Primary, Forward Foundation, Panorama.
Pool B – Durbanville Primary, Kenridge, Drakenstein, Paarl Gimnasium.
Pool C – Gericke, Hugo Rust, Hendrik Louw, Noord-Eind.
Pool D – Stellenbosch Primary II, WA Joubert, Worcester Primary II, Lochnerhof.
Pool E – Brackenfell Primary, Welgemoed Primary, Kathleen Murray, Oueniqua.
Pool F – Stellenbosch Primary, Vooruitsig, NTK RFC Juniors, Eikestad.
