Paarl Boys’ High hosts HTS Drostdy at the annual HJS Rugby Day in Paarl today.

Both these schools have strong rugby traditions. Booshaai has produced the likes of Thomas du Toit, Gurthrö Steenkamp, Corné Krige and Mannetjies Roux, while Drostdy has also been building an impressive list of rugby alumni with old boys Hanru and Wiaan Liebenberg and Wilco Louw among those going on to have successful professional careers.

Boishaai were among the top rugby schools in the country again last year, losing only to Grey College and Rondebosch, and holding Garsfontein to a draw.

HTS Drostdy lost their opening match this season against Boland Landbou 24-10 and will need to up their game to compete with the Paarl boys this weekend.

Boishaai also have teams competing at the Heronbridge Invitational tournament over the weekend and will use this opportunity to get all their players some much-needed game time in preparation for the rest of the season

With a 20:00 kickoff under the lights on a Friday evening before the long weekend the Paarl supporters will be out in masse to see their team’s first fixture of the season and the HJS boys will be looking to entertain the crowd.
