The Director’s Trophy final of 1994 between Affies and Pietersburg belonged to the team of Pretoria’s fullback, Dirkie Strydom. He became only the second player in the history of the competition to score a hat-trick of tries in the final in his side’s 30-13 victory.

Strydom’s contribution of 25 points also set the record for the most points accumalated in a final of the competition. The only previous hat-trick hero was D Prinsloo of Klerksdorp who managed this feat during the 1959 final.

Only Affies’ outside centre, Grant Esterhuizen, became a Springbok out of the winning side. Springbok legend, Victor Matfield, was a stallwart for the side from Pietersburg.
