A little bit of all formats during this year’s Grey Cricket Festival
The annual Grey Cricket Festival will this year give players the opportunity to showcase their talents in three formats.
Teams will play matches in the time-cricket, limited overs, and T20 formats during the four-day cricket festival.
All the matches of the festival will be live-streamed via the SuperSportSchools platform.
This annual tournament is hosted bi-annually by Grey College in Bloemfontein and Grey High School in Gqeberha. This year’s festival will be hosted in the City of Roses.
The first two days will see teams face each other in time cricket with the matches being played over the two days. The hosts, Grey College, will face Selborne College in their opening match on the Johan Volsteedt Oval.
The other big match-up on Days 1 & 2 will be between two of South Africa’s cricketing powerhouses at school level. Grey High School and King Edward VII of Johannesburg. These two schools have produced some of South Africa’s best cricket players over the years.
KES has produced Proteas like Graeme Smith, Quinton de Kock, Ali Bacher, Adam Bacher, and Neil McKenzie to name a few. The team from Gqeberha can boast of the fact that Graeme Pollock, Wayne Parnell, Johan Botha, Lutho Sipamla, and Pieter Strydom are all former pupils who went on to represent South Africa on the cricket field.
Grey College will face Jeppe High School for Boys from Johannesburg and Durban High School in their other two matches during the festival.
