While many of the big teams are participating in tournaments across the country this week, the Western Cape will still be treated to top-class schoolboy rugby action, with some exciting matchups scheduled for Saturday.

Parel Vallei was on the receiving end of a wounded Outeniqua side in their last outing, but they will look to get back on the winning track when they host Hoërskool Brackenfell in Somerset West.

Despite their loss last time out, the Bulldogs have played some really entertaining rugby this season. The interplay between the backs and the forwards, with Renato Tosi, Michael Kent and Shudley Rhoda starring in their team’s efforts, has seen the PV side to a couple of impressive wins already this season.

They went down 0-68 to the Kwaggas in George. Before that, though, they bested DF Malan (28-18) and Tygerberg (29-14) and they’ve looked like an especially tough out at home this season.

The Brakkies have also delivered some highlights this season. They’re coming off an impressive win over Worcester Gimnasium (22-17), away from home, and though they fell short against SACS (27-54) before that, there is no denying their BMT.

With flyers like Cwenga Ntshapho in the backline, and their playmaker at flyhalf, Junior Louw, guiding their attack, Brackenfell will post a completely different challenge from the other teams who have fallen short in Somerset West.

Meanwhile, an unbeaten Charlie Hofmeyr outfit travels to take on Langenhoven Gimnasium in Oudtshoorn.

The home team has been on a winning streak of late, convincingly beating Langenhoven High, from George, 50-19, which they followed up with a 22-17 victory over George High.

Their opponents from Ceres haven’t yet been stopped in 2024. Philip du Plessis and Zephinith Sass have been two livewires in the Charlies’ outfit, with their star flyhalf, Luan Giliomee, impressing week in and week out.

Langenhoven also have some game-breakers in their ranks. Giliomee’s opposite number, Cade Cayford, has directed his side’s attack with distinction, and scrummy Jayden Arends has also been a menace to their opposition all season long.
