South Africa champions at the Commonwealth Games in Samoa

The South African u17 sevens side was crowned champions at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa after beating Australia in the final. 

The South African Youth team which attended the Commonwealth Games of 2011 had to be content with bringing back a silver medal after losing against England (41-20) in the final. The Games of 2011 was hosted on the Isle of Man. Springbok Jan Serfontein was in this team which also included Cheslin Kolbe (Western Province), Dries Swanepoel (Blue Bulls), Andre Esterhuizen (Sharks), Rohan Janse van Rensburg (Lions), Justin Geduld (Blitzbokke), Sean Robinson (Racing Metro), Burger Odendaal (Blue Bulls) and Sikhumbuzo Notshe (Western Province).  

Sevens rugby was first introduced at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2011. The Commonwealth Youth Games was started in 2000 when it was hosted by Edinburgh.
