School of Rugby Rankings – 23 May 2016
The most important result on the weekend according to influence towards School of Rugby’s rankings was Paarl Boys’ High’s 28-18 victory over Grey College in their annual Premier Interschools on Saturday.
This was Boishaai’s 31st successive victory on the rugby field and it probably also means that they will finish for the second year in a row as South Africa’s best first XV at schoolboy level. Boishaai moves with this victory past Grey College to take top spot on our rankings.
Glenwood is also still unbeaten and take the third posisition. They will be thoroughly tested later this year. They still have to play Grey College, Affies and Monument of Krugersdorp. Glenwood is the “World Champions” after being crowned champions of the annual Sanix International tournament in Japan.
Paarl Gimnasium is in fourth position with the defeat in Pretoria against Garsfontein the only blemish on their record. Oakdale Landbou is in fifth with their only defeat thus far coming against Grey College. Affies is in sixth, but should move up the rankings in the top five as the season progresses. They have only two defeats against School of Rugby’s two top ranked teams, Paarl Boys’ High and Grey College, against their name.
Another important result towards our rankings was Helpmekaar’s victory over Garsfontein. Helpies moves into the 14th position thanks to this result. EG Jansen who is in tenth position gave Kempton Park their biggest hiding (83-14) in their 60 years of existence on Saturday.
It is important to take into consideration that School of Rugby’s ranking system only takes into account the performances each team produced thus far in the season and not the potential we might believe each team has.
Please note that we don’t take matches against international opposition into consideration in our rankings. These games will however still be recorded and shown in our results. This rankings is not an official ranking as there is no official ranking on schoolboy level and this is only to get the discussion on school rugby on South Africa flowing. We however take our responsibilty on reporting school rugby very seriously.
