Preview – Paul Roos Gimnasium vs. Grey PE
The interschools between Paul Roos Gimnasium and Grey High School might not count among the older of the interschools from around the country, but is quickly building character as one of the school rugby clashes not to miss. Tomorrow’s encounter will only be the 11th interschools between them since their 14-all draw back in 2005.
Since the first interschools Paul Roos Gimnasium was on the winning side in six encounter with Grey High School claiming four victories. None of the team from Port Elizabeth’s victories is as famous as the one they recorded with their last visit before today to Stellenbosch.
Paul Roos build up a more than healthy lead of 26-0 just to watch Grey PE’s SA Schools flyhalf, Curwin Bosch, kicking the winning points for a 27-26 with the last action of the match in 2014. Bosch was also in the side when Paul Roos defeated them convincingly by 34-3 last year in Port Elizabeth.
Paul Roos’ captain and flyhalf, Damian Willemse, will lead his side as the favourites onto the field. Willemse also represented the South African Schools’ side last year with Bosch. Willemse scored two of his side’s tries in their victory last year in the Windy City. Willemse will play a major role in his side’s game plan today. The home side’s SA Schools’ fullback, Joshua Vermeulen, will also be a player to watch.
Grey PE’s eightman, Khwezi Mafu, was one of the stars at last year’s Coca-Cola Craven Week in Stellenbosch. He also represented the SA Schools team and will cause some problems to Paul Roos with his bullocking runs.
