LOUIS BOTHA and Fichardtpark will partake in the Free State A1-league next year. Both team took part in die B1-league this year with Louis Botha being crowned champions of the league with a 33-9 victory over Sand du Plessis in the final at Shimlapark in Bloemfontein.

Both teams will face Grey College and the Cherries in the league next year. The Cherries are Grey College’s second team. The Free State high schools’ rugby association assigned Pieter Swanepoel, headmaster of Brandfort, to look into a solution for their league problems.

Deon van Wyk, secretary of the association believes that the new league will benefit the province’s school rugby. It will help the players from Louis Botha to adjust to a higher level of rugby as they play a huge part in the Free State’s Cravenweek plans. With them playing in the B1-league it was not ideal for the Cravenweek-side. Seven players from Louis Botha represented the Free State at this year’s Coca Cola Cravenweek in Pretoria.

Jim Fouché, Sentraal, Fichardtpark, Louis Botha, Grey College and the Cherries will fight it out in next year’s A1-league. Jim Fouché will have a hard time to defend their title as Louis Botha will be a force to be reckoned with.
