Garsfontein Ysbere pile on the runs against Boys’ High
The Northern’s Platinum Cricket League second round was played over the weekend with matches taking place on the 24th August 2019.
Several matches from previous rounds have been postponed for various reasons. This past weekend saw two very different games pan out.
Garsfontein took on Pretoria Boys High School in a high scoring match. Garsfontein put up a competitive first innings total of 322 all out.
Benco Van Der Walt scored an impressive 127 runs from 100 balls and formed a dominating middle order partnership with Larno Botha who scored 70 from 60 balls.
It was always going to be a tough ask from the Pretoria Boys High batting unit but the bowling from Garsfontein managed to restrict Boys High to 228 all out in 47 overs. Opening bowler Andre van Wyngaardt lead from the front picking up 4/42 in 10 overs.
Boys High took a few positives from the match with middle order batsmen Tim Ferguson carrying on with his good form from the first round of games adding to his tally of 186 runs with an unbeaten 134.
Menlopark hosted Centurion. Having already lost their previous match Menlo Park were looking to bounce back from their loss. The hosts won the toss and put Centurion into bat first, the visitors were reduced to 148 all out after 47.3 overs.
The pick of the bowlers for Menlo Park was Ryan Greyvenstein who bowled neatly picking up figures of 22/3 from 10 overs. Nathan Fox kept the score ticking along for Centurion and made 42 from 61 balls. Menlo Park’s batting unit successfully chased down the small total within 38 overs ending up on 152/4.
The chase didn’t start to well with Zander van Tonder picking up the early wicket of Dylan De Villiers. Other opener Stoop scored 35 runs from 45 balls before Menlo number three Tristan Janse Van Rensburg scored 59 from 85 balls. Tristan has now scored back to back half centuries.
