Staatspresident Swart High School from Brandfort showed that they have one of the best teams in the central region of South Africa when they won the final of the Irawa-league for small schools in the central region.

They defeated Wilgerivier High School from Frankfort 36-23 at Shimlapark in the final of the competition in Bloemfontein. They also kept their undefeated record over the past two years with this victory. For the winning team Ruan Venter (fullback) showed his class. He was never caught out of position by the opposition although their were a strong wind blowing making it difficult for the him. He also launched some good attacks from the back.

Wilgerivier took an early 10-0 lead. Hannes Lindeque (lock) opened the scoring for Wilgerivier when he poached possession from  Brandfort in his own 22 before outstripping Brandfort’s cover defence to score. After Lindeque’s try Wilgerivier played with much more determination.
